The opportunity:


We have an exciting opportunity for a Cyber Underwriter to join a leading carrier in London. The Cyber Team is focussed on writing international, UK-domiciled and US Wholesale business, on a primary and excess of loss basis. The Cyber team write open market business, as well as via cover holder's that we support as a team. We provide an excellent service via our expert Cyber Underwriters who offer a flexible and innovative approach to underwriting that ensures we provide solution focussed products to our brokers and clients. This role is based within the Cyber team, of which there are six members. The Cyber portfolio underwritten by the Cyber team offers insurance to mid-size corporate clients, up to large multinational and international clients.


What you'll be doing:


  • Collaborate with claims colleagues on broker and customer meetings to maximise business development opportunities, as well studying claims trends and losses in order to further our Underwriting approach

  • Challenge wordings/clauses, lead in navigating the complexities of drafting & amending wordings/ clauses, and raise concerns to Head of Cyber/wordings team

  • Contribute to innovation within the product suite providing expert input into the creation of new products and proactive input into the refinement of existing products or the services relating to the product. Seek to regularly analyse competitors' products, capabilities and appetite and share within the team

  • Proactively develop, own and enhance our customer offering within Cyber, actively engaging with customers to identify their needs and provide solutions to problems, as well as seeking new ways to enhance the customer experience

  • Take the lead in developing and managing key, Cyber specific broker relationships. Actively lead and manage pipelines for the team. Influence brokers and advance Markel's interests through strong interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Identify new distribution and Delegated/Cover holder opportunities and where appropriate implement them

  • Manage your own renewal book of business in line with appetite and strategy, including combined ratio targets
